Il progetto Olga’s nasce nel 2003 da un’iniziativa di Giovanni, volontario del CeLIM (un’organizzazione non governativa che dal 1960 gestisce progetti di cooperazione in Africa), del YCTC (un centro di formazione professionale per giovani orfani e vulnerabili situato a Livingstone e costruito dalla diocesi di Livingstone in collaborazione con il CeLIM), e della famiglia Diappi. Olga Diappi ha sempre amato i progetti coraggiosi e innovativi. La sua famiglia ha quindi voluto trasmettere l’entusiamo e la passione lasciate da Olga, sostenendo un progetto che desse ai giovani in difficoltá gli strumenti per costruirsi un futuro migliore. Da qui l’idea di costruire una guest house-showroom per garantire la sostenibilità economica della scuola e permettere ad un numero maggiore di ragazzi di accedere ai corsi professionali gratuiti.
L’entusiamo per questo progetto ha contagiato molti amici, che attraverso regali di nozze e altre donazioni hanno contribuito a far diventare Olga’s una realtá. E’ bello vedere che il vostro aiuto é diventato tangibile, che la vostra fiducia si é trasformata in mattoni e sorrisi. Abbiamo fatto tanta strada insieme in questi anni, e ancora ne vorremmo fare.

Dal 2006 al 2009, il progetto Olga’s é stato seguito da Ilaria e Michele (volontari del CeLIM basati al YCTC per tre anni) che hanno concretamente reso possibile la realizzazione di Olga’s, trasformando in due anni un cortile incolto e una casa diroccata in un ristorante, un giardino fiorito e uno showroom. Oggi Olga’s é tra i locali piu’ frequentati e apprezzati dai turisti e dalla comunitá di Livingstone, grazie anche alla sapiente gestione del capo progetto CeLIM, Giuseppe.

Ecco le tappe principali che hanno portato a Olga's:
2003 - Il CeLIM riceve la donazione da destinare a Olga’s. La diocesi di Livingstone acquista un lotto di terra a lato della strada principale della cittá.
2005 - Il CeLIM invia la prima volontaria (Stefania, architetto) per cominciare il progetto di ristrutturazione della struttura esistente.
2006 - Ilaria e Michele giungono a Livingstone per aiutare Stefania. A causa delle cattive condizioni dell’edificio esistente, viene deciso di demolire la struttura. Stefania lascia Livingtstone dopo aver completato il progetto per la costruzione del nuovo edificio ed e’ sostituita da Maria (un’altro architetto inviato dal CeLIM).
2007 - Maria riadatta il progetto e inizia la costruzione della recinzione esterna. In agosto, viene ingaggiato un costruttore e inizia la costruzione del nuovo edificio. Maria lascia il progetto ed é sostituita da Giuseppe (capo progetto CeLIM), scelto per aiutare nella gestione di Olga's.
2008 - L’edificio é completo. Ilaria, Michele e Giuseppe sono fieri di avviare questa nuova attivitá.
2010 - Nei due anni trascorsi dalla sua inaugurazione, Olga è diventato uno dei punti di riferimento di Livingstone e il suo staff locale ha raggiunto notevoli capacità manageriali e professionali, tanto che sta prendendo le redini del ristorante avviato da Giuseppe.
2011 - Seguendo l'onda del successo del ristorante, CeLIM e Politecnico di Milano stanno avviando la costruzione di un complesso ricettivo per Olga, grazie al sostegno della Fondazione Cariplo e le donazioni della famiglia Diappi e gli amici. Ciò contribuirà a creare un futuro di piena sufficienza manageriale e finanziario per il YCTC.
Il processo é stato lungo, e non privo di difficoltá, ma siamo sicuri che l’attesa é valsa a ripagare le vostre aspettative! E siamo solo all'inizio...

Olga’s project started in 2003. It was the idea of a private donor (the family of Olga Diappi in her memory), Giovanni, a volunteer of CeLIM (an Italian NGO running development projects in Zambia since the ‘60s), and YCTC (a training centre for orphans and vulnerable youth based in Livingstone -Libuyu Compound- built up by Livingstone Diocese in partnership with CeLIM). The Diappi family wished that Olga's inheritance could be shared with the community and for the community by helping YCTC to become economically sustainable. Hence the idea of building a guest house and showroom to cover the costs of the school and allow the greatest number of youth in need to access free training.
Many friends also supported Olga's through a wedding list of a member of the family.
From 2006 to 2009, Olga’s project has been followed by Ilaria and Michele (CeLIM Volunteers based at YCTC for 3 years) who have turned the project into reality, also with the help of the current project supervisor, Giuseppe.

See below the main steps which led to Olga’s:
2003 - Money is donated to CeLIM with the idea of using it for Olga’s. A plot next to the main road is found and bought by the Diocese.
2005 - CeLIM sends the first volunteer (Stefania, an architect) to start the planning for the renovation of an existing structure.
2006 - Ilaria and Michele join the project in support of Stefania. Due to the poor condition of the foundation, it is decided to demolish the existing building. Stefania leaves after delivering the complete set of drawings for the new building and is replaced by Maria (another architect sent by CeLIM).
2007 - Maria adjusts the drawings and starts the construction of the external fence. In August, a contractor is chosen and the project can start. Maria leaves and is replaced by Giuseppe chosen to run the restaurant and most of all the “Pizza Oven”.
2008 - The building is complete. Ilaria, Michele and Giuseppe are proud to be in charge and to start running the activity!
2010 - In the two years since its inauguration, Olga's has become one of Livingstone's landmarks and its local staff has achieved remarkable managerial and professional skills, and it is the staff taking the reins of the restaurant from Giuseppe.
2011 - Building on Olga's success, CeLIM and Politecnico di Milano are starting the construction of Olga's accomodation complex, thanks to the support of the Cariplo Foundation and donations from the Diappi family and friends. This will help Olga's and YCTC to shape a future of full managerial and financial self sufficiency.
So, as you can see, it has been a long process but we hope that the long wait has been worthwhile! And it's just the beginning...
